C&D Bonding West Coast Late Model Shootout Season Opener Around the Corner

(SANTA MARIA, CA.) – The C&D Bonding West Coast Late Model Shootout is set to begin their 2014 campaign with a four race opening swing over the course of eight days. The action will begin at Peoria, Arizona’s Canyon Speedway Park for the two day Copper on Dirt on February 28th and March 1st. The series will travel to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, for The Outlaw Showdown, a mid-week show opening NASCAR weekend with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on Wednesday, March 5th and bring things to an end at Bakersfield Speedway on March 8th.

Defending series champion Steve Drake goes into Canyon Speedway Park as the most recent series winner, sweeping the Terry Belcher Classic in November en route to the 2013 championship. Ham Lake, Minnesota’s Don Shaw and Las Cruces, New Mexico’s Garrett Alberson picked up victories during last year’s Copper on Dirt. Joining the C&D Bonding West Coast Late Model Shootout on Friday and Saturday February 28th and March 1st will be USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets and IMCA Modifieds. The C&D Bonding West Coast Late Model Shootout made their debut at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2012 with Don Shaw finding Victory Lane. Seven states and one Canadian province were represented in 2013 among the 31 card field. Early in the feature it looked as if Shaw would repeat, taking the early lead but it was Chandler, Arizona’s Ricky Thornton Jr taking the checkered flag in a 30 lap green to checkered feature event. Bakersfield Speedway provided side by side, edge of your seat action when the C&D Bonding West Coast Late Model Shootout took the track last season. Morgan Hill’s Jeff Decker held off Bobby Hogge after battling door to door the final laps with a three car battle for third behind them. “The Dominator” Brad Pounds also picked up a series victory defending his home track.
