CALISTOGA TO HOST SPRING CLASSIC FOR LATE MODELS AND MODIFIEDS

 – The 1st annual Calistoga Speedway Spring Classic has been announced for June 11 at the historic dirt half-mile track in the heart of the wine country. Tony Hunt’s Highline Promotions will present a thrilling card of Late Models and open comp Modified races.

 

The event will mark the first ever Super Late Model race at the track making this a must-see race as drivers chase $2000 to win. All the top Late Model drivers from the Western All Stars, West Coast Late Model Shootout, and All Pro Series will be in action.

In another first, the race will mark six-time USAC champion Tony Hunt’s inaugural foray into promoting. Hunt has promoted charity events in the past such as the Race for a Cause at Race Place Motorsports (an indoor karting facility in Sacramento) but the Spring Nationals will be his first outdoor event.

Bobby Hogge IV will be running double-duty in both the Modified and Late Model divisions, fresh off a wins with the Western All Stars at Hanford and the West Coast Late Model Shootout at Bakersfield Speedway. Steve Drake leads the West Coast Late Model Shootout points after four rounds with Mike Kirby running strong in fourth in the standings and also expected to compete.

Petaluma Speedway and the All Pro Series will go dark that night which should provide even more Late Models and Modifieds for this prestigious event.

Chris Shannon, Anthony Restad, Jeff Decker, and Richard Papenhausen are also expected to race at Calistoga as they are ranked solidly in all three division’s standings. Papenhausen leads the Western All Stars points while Restad is atop the All Pro Series rankings.

With more than 30 Modifieds participating the Calistoga races over Memorial Day weekend, a similar field will be expected for the Spring Nationals event.

Tickets for 1st annual Spring Classic are a bargain at just $20 for adults with kids ages 4-12 $10 while kids 3 and under are free. The front gates will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 5 and racing to start at 6:30 p.m.
